Personal Life

Ryan resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Anna, an ICU nurse. The couple married in 2024 and share their home with two pets: Blinkey, a black cat, and Marshall, a golden retriever puppy. Originally from the Midwest, Ryan grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since putting himself through college, he has lived in Newport Beach, Seattle, and Austin but maintains strong ties to Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin, where his family and friends are spread across the region.

In 2025, Ryan and Anna plan to relocate to Denver, Colorado, to be closer to Anna’s family. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys cycling, working out, fixing things, and continuously learning—recently, he has taken an interest in IoT technology. One of his 2024 side projects was building his first self-hosted home server, where he runs Home Assistant, an open-source platform that offers customizable smart home automation beyond the limitations of major tech ecosystems like Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. He has used Home Assistant to develop practical automations, such as turning on lights automatically, activating his Roborock vacuum after dinner using hidden wireless buttons under the dining table, and displaying camera feeds on a tablet when motion is detected at night.

The son of a mechanic, Ryan enjoys troubleshooting and repairing cars, hardware, or anything broken—achieving about a 70% success rate. He and Anna love to travel, explore new restaurants, attend concerts, and enjoy lazy days together. Looking ahead, they hope to buy a home and start a family in the coming years.
